2021.10.28 15:44 Purple_You_8969 What cravings are you surprised to have?

My cravings are very minimal and it surprises me since when I was on my period I craved everything. The 2 only things I seem to really crave are the cereal fruity pebbles and cheese Chex mix, things that I haven’t really eaten since my early teen years. I bought a 40 lb bag of fruity peoples yesterday since I go throw so much of the regular boxes 😂 just wondering if any other pregnant ladies out there are craving things from their earlier years they haven’t had in a while. Or what are your cravings in general? My husband is having some cravings too and it’s always Mexican food, my baby is going to love Mexican food when she’s born and able to eat solids 😂

2021.10.28 15:44 InterestInside Battle of Brémule - the heck?

Just got to this point of the tutorial, sorry for the stupid question potentially, but what on earth is this mission? You start with a couple basic troops and within minutes you have a full pop endgame army wipe you out. Every mission so far has be painfully easy and slow, then suddenly im destroyed with no even a glimpse of hope. Am I missing something?

2021.10.28 15:44 mhukthrowaway Retaining Control

I am in my very late thirties. I have a good job, a family and two teenage children. My mental health has waxed and waned over the years and I came close to committing suicide before my thirtieth birthday.
I am fast approaching forty and the same feelings of despair and helplessness keep rearing. The same suicidal ideation and planning I had ten years ago is forming again. I do want to get some sort of help but don't really know where to turn because I am Nosocomephobic - clinical situations terrify me (awful for someone with a lifelong autoimmune condition) - and if there is any chance that me being honest with a clinician about what I am thinking could lead to forcible detention or treatment, then it is a non-starter.
Is there any way to be able to speak freely to a mental health professional without there being any risk of being subjected to the Mental Health Act?

2021.10.28 15:44 6e6f6e2d62696e617279 Rear Admiral what's-his-name has a Bad Day

This is a follow-up to Fission Chips, so please consider reading part one!
u/dbgamerstarz was kind enough to edit a first draft, but I changed it loads so any mistakes are mine. I'm hoping to write more in this universe if there is any interest; as always, any feedback is super-appreciated. ^_^
'You mean to tell me, Captain, that Her Britannic Majesty's Empire now consists of England, the parts of Wales the Welsh didn't want, a 50% timeshare in Las Malvinas / The Falklands and... the rest of the galaxy outside of our solar system?'
The Rear Admiral was rustled, but only those closest to him would have known; he had started tapping his feet to the rhythm of 'Don't You Want Me' by the Human League, which took him back to the year six disco when he had almost plucked up the courage to ask Milly Swillingham to dance.
'We did put a flag on Mars, too,' said Captain Harris, a little too cheerfully, 'but I don't know if that quite counts, these days. And of course there are the regions of the galaxy that no-one's reached yet, including our own.'
'This is quite absurd and I shall definitely not be telling the Prime Minister,' said the Rear Admiral, lighting a cigarette, 'at least, not right away.'
He sat in silence for a few moments, smoking.
'How many star systems are we talking?'
'Uh - lots, Pip. But the vast majority are uninhabited; and of those that are, ninety percent boast nothing more than a research station. So it's just a few, really.'
'Quantify 'just a few', Captain,' came the terse reply.
'Well I don't know exactly, but there are 574 species represented in the former Galactic Union and they have maybe 250 colonies apiece?'
Captain Harris floated on screen as the Rear Admiral punched numbers into an oversized calculator; mental arithmetic had never been his strongest suit.
'Crikey,' said the Rear Admiral, as he took in the number of numbers on the number-cruncher. Six was a lot. 'Wait, the former Galactic Union... so who's in charge now?' he asked.
'That would be Gibbons. We left him behind with strict instructions not to make a hash of it. In the absence of Her Majesty he is de facto ruler of a hundred trillion souls.'
'Petty Officer Gibbons, the one with the-'
'Yes, that's right,' interjected Captain Harris, 'although he spent a week in the brig and was demoted to Leading Rate shortly into the voyage when we discovered he'd smuggled his cat on board. For future reference, cats do not appreciate zero-g.'
The lengthy scar on his face seemed evidence enough.
'Then why him, for heaven's sake?' said the exasperated Rear Admiral.
'He wouldn't leave Mr. Wrigglesworth behind, and it was thought he had the best... constitution for the job. Of course as part of the treaty we had to remove all of our food from the station, and the other sort's really is rather spicy. After all, he did once eat that sock vindaloo Smith cooked up as a joke.'
'Yes, and if I recall, the subsequent... emissions were classed as a chemical attack for insurance purposes. Did you think of that, before you left him as Britain's sole representative among those who apparently can't handle beans-on-fucking-toast?'
Captain Harris winced.
'Well, can't you speak with him, man?' continued the Rear Admiral. 'You've been gone months, who knows what chaos lies in your wake! Aren't there fancy walkie talkies or something you can use?'
'The mediocre author's rule of narrative convenience applies I'm afraid, Pip,' said Captain Harris petulantly, turning to look at said author who was too annoyed at consciously having used an adverb for the first time in like forever to notice.
'The speed of light is a universal constant,' he droned, 'and as it happens faster-than-the-speed-of-light is too.' He pirouetted neatly - which in fairness is really hard to do in zero-g - to address the Rear Admiral. 'So anyway, the other sort have a system not entirely unlike the first postal service. I'm expecting a delivery from Gibbons shortly.'
The Rear Admiral was tired of a sudden.
'I hate that rule, it just feels so damned lazy. Like something only a desperate hack with no talent would come up with, given three weeks,' he began, before he started punching himself in the face and then soiled himself. Also his uniform started to itch terribly and no-one was going to his birthday party on the weekend, and- 'okay, okay, I give in,' he said, seemingly defeated, and miraculously the cancer of the spleen he was about to suffer just sort-of went away.
'I know what you mean though,' said Captain Harris, 'I prefer the rule that gives us plot armour thicker than the author's-'
There was a sudden and suspiciously convenient burst of static.
'Hah!' said the Rear Admiral, who was skating on very thin ice indeed. 'You'll be okay though, I don't even have a proper name. I don't think there will be much use for a Rear Admiral after this instalment.'
He sounded morose, and a little like he might develop symptoms after all.
'Cheer up Pip, it's not all bad. We have an Empire to run!'
Just then the first of the newly-commissioned Royal Mail drones dropped out of super-hyperspace, and began broadcasting on the top-secret MI8 bandwidth: BBC Radio Seven Point Four. Conceived as a specialist station for obscure psychedelic music from the 1970s, the spooks were fairly certain the only others listening would be higher than a kite or else utter wankers; and that neither constituency would seem especially believable.
Leading Rate Gibbons's message began ominously.
'They didn't tell us about the space-French, Captain...'
